Delete your Barknity account

You can delete your account and everything in it. There are two ways, depending on whether you still have the app.
If you still have the app — instant
- Open Barknity
- Go to the Profile tab
- Tap Settings
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my account
- Confirm twice
It happens immediately. Nothing to wait for and nobody to email.
If you have already uninstalled the app
Email barknity@gmail.com from the address you signed up with, with the subject Delete my account.
We reply within 30 days, and normally much sooner. We ask you to write from your registered address because that is how we know the request is really from you — please do not send us identity documents.
Deletion is permanent. There is no undo and no grace period. If you want a copy of your data first, open the app and use Profile → Settings → Download my data before deleting.
What gets deleted
- Your name, email, date of birth, gender, town and description
- Your height, job, education and hobbies
- Every photo of you, removed from our storage as well as our database
- Your dogs and all their photos
- Your saved location and any live location shares
- Your swipes, your matches, and who liked you
- Walks you organised and walks you had joined
- Your password and every logged-in session
- The content of every message you sent
What is kept, and why
- A blank placeholder record. Your account row survives with every personal detail removed and the name shown as "Deleted user". It exists so that conversations do not break for the people you spoke to.
- Reports and blocks made against your account. These belong to the people who made them. They exist to protect someone, and deleting them would remove that person's record of what happened to them.
- The fact that a conversation took place. The content of your messages is erased, but the other person keeps their side of the exchange. We cannot delete their history.
How long it takes
Deleting from inside the app is immediate. Backups are overwritten on a rolling 30-day cycle, so a copy may persist in an encrypted backup for up to 30 days before it is gone entirely.
